Note Local

About Note Local

Note Local is a small independent web project built around one tool: turning an audio recording into editable MIDI notes, entirely inside your own browser.

What the site does

The Note Local converter accepts an MP3 or WAV file and produces a Standard MIDI file of the detected notes. It shows a piano-roll preview of the result and lets you listen to the notes or download the .mid file for editing in a DAW or MIDI editor.

It is note transcription, not stem separation and not a copy of the original recording. Clear recordings of a single instrument work best; full songs, drums, vocals and noise can produce extra or missed notes. The tool page states these limits in full.

Who made it

Note Local is made and maintained by the Note Local project. The site is published under that name. It is an independent project, not part of Spotify, Google, or any other company named on this site.

How it works

Your audio file is read and processed on your own device. There is no upload endpoint, no account and no stored conversion history. The page downloads its own code and the Basic Pitch model when you convert; your audio is not included in those requests. Closing the tab clears the session.

The note detection uses Spotify Basic Pitch (Apache 2.0). Notes are exported as Standard MIDI with a fixed 120 BPM time base, with the original note timing preserved in seconds. The site does not claim tempo or instrument identification.

The complete third-party licence texts are on the open-source licenses page.
